During recent year, rectifier of distribution,frequency conversion speeder andarc furnace are increased at fast speed. These non-linear loads harm power system andinterference in power quality. The problem of harmonic distortion becomes ever moreand more important and has been well recognized around the world. The active powerfilter have been researched and used widely as one of methods on harmonicsuppression.A general description of reason of harmonic and a general description ofharmonic distortion around the world is given in this thesis at first. It introduces theprinciple of the active power filter and analyzes method of harmonic current detectingon the active power filter. Accurate and rapid detection of the system of harmoniccurrents and reactive components can ensure the timely APF compensation. Becauseharmonic detecting method is not realized and there are many multipliers based oninstantaneous reactive power theory, a new idea based on fundamental amplitudeseparation is proposed from FFT transform。The method calculate fundamentalcomposition and amplitude of reactive current in the distortion current separately bythe trigonometric characteristics, then separate them through the low pass filter. In theend, we get fundamental composition and amplitude of reactive current. Due to themethod being simple and fast, it use not only in the single-phase circuit but also thethree-phase circuit. In order to whether the theory of harmonic detection based on thefundamental amplitude separation or not right and whether it can useful in the APF ornot feasible, the paper design the new hybrid-shunt active power filter and simulate inthe computer software. The results of simulation show that the Hybrid-shuntActivePower Filter can suppress harmonic pollution in the power system effectively.
