Active power filter (APF) is a new power electric device, which can compensateharmonic and reactive current of electric power system effectively. It is very significant toimproving the property of APF with the improvements of the harmonic current detectiontechnology. The theorem of instantaneous reactive power has been applied in harmonicreal-time detection in active power filters widely since it was proposed in 1980s. On thebasis of illustrating various power theorems, this paper takes on the analyzing and simulationin the harmonic current detection methods based on the theorem of instantaneous reactivepower.It is the primary project that the effects on the detection methods based on the dqtransformation with the different types and parameters of the low pass filters in this paper.Through a lots simulations on the simulation circuit for the harmonic detection,The optimization of the compensation ratios of various orders harmonic has beenexplored in order to satisfy the requirement of the minimizing of the total harmonic voltagedistortion when the value of harmonic load is out of the compensation rating of the APF.
