The Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technology is considered as one of the most promising break in modern telecommunication technology; however, the high performance, besides the high capacity, promised by MIMO technology is highly dependent on the propagation properties of channels. Meanwhile, MIMO radio channel models are needed for the investigations in the key techniques of MIMO systems. With the models, simulations can be carried on for the algorithm and system evaluation. Therefore, it is necessary to research MIMO radio channel modeling. This dissertation mainly focuses on the modeling and simulations of the WINNER II channel model. Firstly, the available wireless channel characteristics and methods and classifications of channel modeling are summarized. Secondly, the concrete problems in WINNER II channel modeling are described. These problems include the propagation scenarios, methods of WINNER II channel modeling, the detailed steps of channel parameters and coefficients construction processes, and applicable areas. A comparison between the SCM/SCME and WINNER channel model is also given. Thirdly, the flow chart and function explanations of WINNER channel simulations are given. Then the simulation results are analyzed in detail. Fourthly, a mobile-to-mobile channel model which is an extension of WINNER II channel model is put forward. The remainder is an application of the WINNER channel model, which derived MIMO channel capacity based on the simulation results confirming the high capacity of MIMO channel.
