Tactical Data Link, defined as an integrated system for information processing, exchange and distribution, is widely applied to bridge the information among commanding centers, battle forces and weapon platforms in the modern digital battle field. Being the lifeline of the future weapon system, leading countries have already developed some well-established prototypes, for instance, Link16 system. Our country is currently accelerating the research and development in this field. Using simulation technologies for early-stage theory verifications and evaluations, it has been well recognized by the international military.Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) communication protocol is one of the most important parts of Tactical Data Link system. To construct the network simulation platform, this paper analyzed different kinds of the TDMA protocol specially designed for Tactical Data Link, summarized the key algorithms of mutually exclusive time slot and allocation, and conducted simulation verifications and realizations to the data and voice service of TDMA protocol. This paper also explored the application of High Level Architecture (HLA) technology on distributed Tactical Data Link simulations, with two schemes proposed: the simulation of HLA in Tactical Data Link control function and in distributed network, respectively. Shown by the simulation results, in building distributed virtual battle field settings, the HLA technology will effectively improve simulation speed and simplify model designs, hence yields excellent simulation performance.
