With the development of electronic technology, more and more attention have been proposed to study the passive radar which employs all kinds of illuminator of opportunity to detect target. External illuminators based radar system using the echo wave that is radiated from the outer radiators of the civil broadcast or TV can track and detect the aerial object that scatters if back. Especially, the multistatic radar which uses commercial television and radio broadcast signals to illuminate can not be threatened by anti-radiation missiles and provides the capability of the stealth targets. In this paper, we will focus on the problem of range ambiguity occurring in passive bistatic (multistatic) radar system that uses the television signal as illuminator. The summary of our research work is as follows: the structure of the Black-and-White TV Signal and Color TV Signal is briefly introduced. The ambiguity functions of several simple Black-and-White TV Signal and Color TV Signals are presented. This paper analyzes the problems and techniques of signal processing of external TV video illuminators based radar. Standard color bar signal is generalized with the computation of match filtering output. But the matched filtering of this kind of signal will yield high sidelobes in range processing, and further cause the range ambiguity to occur. To overcome this problem, the mismatched filter is proposed which can suppress the correlation sidelobes in range processing of Color TV Signal. Two methods in designing mismatched filter have been introduced in this paper: weighting sidelobes mismatched filter and convex programming mismatched filter.
