The possibility of micro-discharge of spaces microwave devices increases greatly. And with the development of space technology, micro-discharge effect becomes a serious problem which should not be underestimated, although the effect caused by micro-discharge has been long-standing in recent years. Therefore, the study of micro-discharge theory and effective measures for improving the threshold of micro-discharge components as well as effectively reducing the micro-discharge effect will be an urgent task.This paper is beginning with the causes of micro-discharge and pay great attention to micro-discharge mechanism and its conditions. Two test methods carried out experimental study of micro-discharge are brought forward. One is second harmonic detection; the anther is before/after the zero-power detection. Then some structural designs to improve the power capacity of the RF carrier as well as the size of ventilation hole and space can be used to avoid occurring micro-discharge. Finally, FDTD could be used to solve the RF field within square coaxial line. The comparison of theoretical and experimental data indicates that the analytic method of this paper is reasonable and the prediction result can satisfy the practice engineering demand.
