Routing protocol is one of the most important parts in Ad Hoc network. How to design a routing protocol to make a full use of Multiple Input Multiple Output technology is a hot discussed issue in communication mechanism of Ad Hoc network. The MIMO link can achieve better performance in communication range, data rate or reliability by leveraging spatial multiplexing or diversity strategy combined with other techniques. The performances of all kinds of links employed by traditional AODV routing protocol in the network with various characteristics are analyzed and simulated, where there is only one style of link in the whole network. Then all the related protocols in the network are analyzed, where simultaneously exists diversity and multiplexing links, and a Multi-strategy Link Routing (MLR) is realized which can properly fit for this network condition. We perform a systematic set of experiments from the aspects of density, load, mobility and loss characteristics to analyze the capability of MLR comparing with the traditional AODV routing protocol whose link strategy is changed among diversity, multiplexing and SISO. Simulation results on OPNET10.5 Modeler explicitly show the MLR routing protocol can provide significant performance in spatial reuse and link capability.
