In the traditional process of Surface Mount Technology, the component mount coordinates and other corrective mount parameters, which come from the design files of Printed Circuit Board, often include errors. It is necessary to debug on placement equipment repeatedly before final manufacture. These badly affect the efficiency of manufacture. To simulate the process of PCB surface mount on computers can solve these problems, because the errors in the mount files can be found and corrected in time. To optimize the sequence of components assembly will greatly promote the efficiency of PCB component manufacture.Firstly, this paper introduces Surface Mount Technology and PCB surface mount process. Sequence of components assembly, concerning mount efficiency, is brought forward as the key problem in the optimization of PCB surface mount process. Then the system of PCB surface mount process is planned by holistic. Several kinds of EDA design files in different format are analyzed, and format analysis report of these EDA files are formed for the first time. The file format for simulation is designed and also the conversion interface of EDA design files. The conversion from EDA design files to simulation file format is achieved after processed. The mathematics model of the sequence of components assembly is built. At last, the basic genetic algorithm is improved and the problem of components assembly sequence is researched by the improved genetic algorithm.The development of different EDA files format analysis reports will be expediently to be read and analyzed. And it provides a direct format reference for designing simulation file. The format of different EDA design files is unified and the electronic circuit manufacture data can be retrieved and converted from PCB design files directly. The improved genetic algorithm is proved to be effective to optimize the assembly path and shorten the assembly period. All these are perfectly prepared for the implement of the simulation system of PCB surface mount process.The optimization of components assembly sequence is only part of the whole system. Another problem, distribution of feeders, is not considered in this paper. In addition, the configuration of placement equipment is ever changing. And placement equipment of greater speed and more functions will appear. All these will bring forward much more requests to the optimization problem of placement equipment. These will be the main contents for the further research of the paper.
