The aim,parameters,characteric and Procedure of WCDMA radio network Planning(RNP) are introduced in this thesis.The principle of WCDMA RNP process that coverage,capacity and quality of serviee(Qos) are closely related and should be eclectically considered is expatiated by theoretical analysis.Then the method how to use the principle in practical projects is discussed,through the process of the choice of network parameters,radio link budget(RLB),capacity planning and static network simulation.This thesis consists of the following four sections.Firstly , by reviewing the evolvement history of the cellular mobile telecommunication system and multiple access technology,the difference of radio network planning among three-generation cellular mobile telecommunication systems as well as the necessity of WCDMA RNP are introduced.Then there is a brief introduction of the global and domestic situation and the trend of 3rd generation(3G)network,then significance of WCDMA RNP is pointed out. Secondly,because WCDMA is an interference-limited system,the concept of load factor is introduced to analyze the interference degree·Through theoretical analysis we can find that coverage,capacity and quality of service are closely related in WCDMA network.The author proves this by analyzing the data from static network simulation and then points out the significance of network simulation.Thirdly,the procedures of WCDMA RNP are expatiated based on a practical project.WCDMA RNP is a systemic process,including the enactment of network parameters and aims,dimensioning,network simulation and detailed planning.The first procedure is the precondition of RNP,and the criterion verifying whether the RNP aims are fulfilled is constituted here. Dimensioning is based on the conditions constituted in the first procedure. Through coverage analysis with radio link budget,capacity estimation with Campbell algorithm and Erlang formulation,the amount of sites and base station hardware,radio network controllers (RNC) and other network elements are estimated here.The detailed Planning procedure is accomplished by network performance simulation with static simulation tools,and the WCDMA network can be optimized by adjusting network parameters.Finally,the influence of novel technology to WCDMA RNP is discussed. High speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) is joined into the WCDMA system in release 5.The downlink capacity is increased evidently by using HSDPA,but the capacity and coverage of WCDMA release 99(R99/R4) netwok are influenced.The method how to embed HSDPA planning into the R99 netwok planning Process as well as the means how to optimize network parameters when the resource is limited are introduced in the final chapter.
