Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), as an automatic identification technology, is developed with the maturity of communication technology and large scale integrated circuits. As RFID edge closer towards wide-spread deployment, security issues and privacy problems become a central concern, which are viewed as a primary barrier to the widespread adoption of RFID.Many different solutions that attempt to address the security concerns raised by the use of RFID tags have been proposed. Some of these solutions, the object of this paper, are based on cryptography and warmly discussed. Firstly, this paper thoroughly analyzes security and privacy problems about RFID and gets security requirements of RFID. Secondly, a new lightweight mutual authentication protocol is proposed on the basis of analysis and summarization on the typical protocols. Then, the universal hash function which can be easily implemented in our protocol is introduced and analyzed. Finally, the digital controller of a security RFID tag chip is designed according to ISO/IEC15693 and our protocol. The function simulation and back-end simulation of each module is executed in Modelsim SE 5.7. The result of simulation indicates it can work well. The RFID tag chip is implemented in SMIC 0.35μm three-metal two-poly mixed signal CMOS technology with embedded EEPROM. The analysis of area and power dissipation shows that the design fulfills the low-cost requirement.
