Information technology has been coming into digital era. As a high quality multimedia player and high performance network information terminal, IPTV, which is based on embedded system, is a new hotspots of next generation consumer electronics and has market perspective. Based on the study of Digital TV standards, IP network protocol and embedded software and hardware technology, design a IPTV STB.The key technology of a IPTV system includes audio and video encode, QoS of audio and video transfers over IP network and digital right management system. The NAL packet of H.264/AVC encode standard, which is high performance in encode efficiency and flexible to IP network, should be packet to UDP (User Datagram Protocol) packet to transfer over a IP network. Since the UDP protocol is non-connection, a transfer control should be taken on the high level to avoid high packet loss when the network is bad. Designed a improved AIMD (Additive Increase Multiplicative Decrease) rate control algorithm to reduce the server's send rate and avoid to fluctuate the send rate by accidentally packet lost.DRM (Digital right management) is an important technology to expand the IPTV. Designed a DRM system based on SSL(Secure socket layer) to management the user and the licenses on server, and identify the user and encrypt the message by SSL protocol. The system has advantage on the protection of the digital product right and the flexibility of the user management.A design instance is shown in this paper. The design of hardware circuit and the application software system in which STb7100 is chosen as the processor is elaborated.
