Currently CAD technology is experiencing a great rapid development and now leading itself into greater depth to the application. Foundry processing CAD is one of the extension areas. HzCAD(2D), the domestic foundry processing CAD software, has been studying the general CAD technology of foundry processing years before. Based on this, a casting steel processing CAD module has been developed in this paper.Firstly, a casting steel processing CAD module should provide enough functions to help a processing design engineer to finish a whole casting steel processing design. To achieve this goal, a study has been conducted in this paper and realized some design functions, such as die parting surface design, die parting line design, padding design, gating system design, core design, processing card design and so on.Secondly, padding design uses a geometric drawing method, named Rolling Circle, in the module. This method is used very widely in the casting steel processing design. Although the theory of Rolling Circle method is quite simple, it is a repetitive and heavy labor. Now the labor can be saved greatly under the help of the module.Thirdly, in order to improve the usability of the module, two technologies have been studied in this paper. One is a new way of graphic entities saving and opening in AutoCAD. The other is the real-time graphics showing in AutoCAD.The new way of graphic entities saving and opening saves all entities'data into an independent database from AutoCAD internal graphic's. In this way, the entities'data could be preserved permanently and used in different drawing projects. This technology could conquer the shortcomings of existed way of graphic entities saving and opening in AutoCAD.The real-time graphics showing could display the drawing results dynamically, which could make users to see the drawing entities'graphic shapes and locations clearly. This technology could significantly strengthen the usability of the module.The casting steel processing CAD module could simplify and accelerate the design and drawing of casting processing with above technologies. Now the module has been applied in Baoji Oil Machinery Casting Plant and gained good effect.
