Fused Deposition Modeling is one of the most widely used Rapid Prototyping Technique all over the world, which plays an important role in the product design and evaluation, function test and product showing, etc. In recent years FDM has been developing very quickly in China, but its technology used is far from advanced ones in foreign countries. Delivering filament's technology is one of the most key technologies of FDM, it makes great effect on improvement of stability, efficiency and precision of the FDM. So this paper covers a comprehensive theoretical study, and developes a new control system of FDM delivering filament.Based on the former system of delivering filament, a new control system of delivering filament's electromotor is put forward .The new control system uses a industrial PC and a single chip to realize the control system by board card. In the system, the industrial PC completes the data setting of the electromotor on the computer application software, and realize the number of delivering filament per second invariable. The single chip completes the positive and negative turn's control of electromotor, it also collects the data of filament's diameter by feedback control. The communication between industrial PC and single chip should be based on the FDM Serial Port Communication Protocol. To realize the communication between industrial PC completes and single chip, the paper discusses about the module and project in the new control system, and designs the communication mode and the FDM Serial Port Communication Protocol. It also analyzes and designs the corresponding hardware of the delivering filament system and writes programs for the hardware.The new system of FDM delivering filament will improve the electromotor control and the precision of FDM process. It will make a base for the future FDM delivering filament system.
