With the development of network,the traditional Internet Protocol IPv4 has gradually fails to satisfy people's needs because its following flaws: Limited address space, low address allocation efficiency and unwarranted security. And the new Internet Protocol IPv6 has 128 bits'Super address space, classified address model, guaranteed quality of services and strong safety. These advantages make IPv6 become the main symbol of the Next Generation Internet.In view of the current development of network storage, indicates the significance of the realization of the storage cluster systems which can support the next generation Internet. Through the analysis of the network middleware, further illustrates that the network middleware plays an important role in the storage cluster system.Describes the hierarchical structure, working model and the network types supported of the network middleware, and then brings forward the overall goals and design plans of the IPv6-supported storage cluster middleware. In the process, through the research of TCP/IP protocol's source code in Linux, analyzes the similarities and differences between IPv4 and IPv6, and then gets the methods of transplanting the user-mode socket functions; through the research of the process of calling system calls from Linux kernel, provides a theoretical basis for transplanting the kernel-mode socket functions. At last successfully achieves the storage cluster system which can support IPv6, the methods summed up in this process can be equally applicable to other network transplant procedures from IPv4 to IPv6, and can be a reference for the network programming.The design and realization of this middleware makes a strong connection between storage cluster systems and IPv6 network environment. Tests show that in IPv6 environment, the storage cluster system can be operated stably and the performance is sound. So this system can be a good basic platform for further researches on the next generation storage cluster system, for instance, the storage architecture, intelligent storage, storage management, data organization, data transmission and so on.
