With enhancement of DSP performance and the development of video compression technology, high-performance DSP processor and MPEG4 video compression technology-based video surveillance system has developed rapidly, and in transportation, production areas to be widely used. This paper discusses in detail to the ADI DSP (ADSP-BF533) at the core and open source XVID MPEG4 video coding system consisting of high performance and low cost of the network camera design and implementation.First, the article describes the background, requirements analysis of a video surveillance, and several Video Surveillance System comparison analysis. Then a brief overview of the main paper work.Then the design and realization of network cameras programs and hardware system design modules. The main hardware modules include: processor platform modules, video capture module, network transmission modules and memory modules.In the third chapter, Software system design and Implementation of network cameras, software platform is the VDSP's own high-performance operation system-VDK.At the same time I design video and network module, focusing on the porting of open source TCP/IP protocol stack(LwIP).The fourth chapter on the current video coding technology MPEG4 XVID in brief, focusing on the porting of XVID and optimization work. The optimization of hardware and software will enable the system more efficient and better video quality. Finally, a summary of the current work.This design consider using DSP processer system from current hot and practical need, network cameras use of modular design, compact structure, convenient debugging and upgrading, increased system flexibility and adaptability.The encoding and protocol stacks are using open source code, it greatly shorten the product design cycle because of the use of open source code, while we understand the entire system depthly.
