| The first hard disk was invented in 1956. During the 50 years, magnetic storage is used widely and becoming more and more popular, it occupies a dominant position in the storage area. In the whole process of production for a hard disk drive, the servo track writing is a very important process. In this process all servo information will be written in hard disk in a special format. Facing to large capacity, high performance and miniaturized demand of hard disk, manufactures continuously make break through limitations, and propose new servo technology.Simultaneously, improvement in read/write channels allows the substantial increase in hard disk capacity. Read/write channel is the circuit that between the read/write head and interface controller, it is an important ingredient of the digital information storage system. The early technology used in read/write channel is peak detection, magnetic record density has been increased significantly as a result of the application of partial-response maximum-likelihood. The servo block of the read/write channel will be analysed.Pattern generator is used to genetate the servo information. The procedure of servo track writing and the architecture of pattern generator will be discussed. Based on Peripheral Component Interconnect and Complex Programmable Logic Device, a pattern generator system will be disigned, and a simulation will be taked, the result fays in with the theoretical analysis. The system can not only be used as a experiment platform for the research of servo track writing, but also the result of simulation can be taken as theoretical bases for proposing new servo technology. |
