With the development of economy, the archaeological career of our country has made tremendous progress, more and more people are beginning to put attention on cultural relics and archaeology which were cloaked in mystery. Archaeological discoveries have features of "new materials and great results", which attract the audience. If used properly, this kind of exhibitions may play a good role in education. In order to promote history culture, short the distance between the public and the archaeology, and increase public awareness of heritage conservation, many museums in our nation have held permanent exhibitions and special exhibitions based on the great archaeological discoveries. But the effects are not very good. These exhibitions either are too professional, or become art exhibitions in order to show off treasures. As a result, there is little appeal to the most audience. This thesis quotes many theories, for example, theories about information communication, cognitive science, exhibition designing and so on ,to make a interdisciplinary study, and its aim is to study how the special exhibitions of archaeological discoveries exploit its advantages to the full and communicate the information to the audience smoothly? There are four parts in this thesis:Part One retrospects all the exhibitions based on the archaeological discoveries, and promotes the concept of "special exhibition of archaeological discoveries".Part Two discusses features and current situation of this kind of exhibitions, and finds why the information is sent but can't make sense: The designer look upon the exhibition as one-way spread course of information, so that they only emphasize the professionalness, systematicness and accuracy of the information, but neglect the dissemination effect. Then this thesis proposes a two-way-communicate mode of information, and points that disseminators should design exhibitions purposely according to the cognitive ability and experience of the audience. Part Three makes a deep analysis on how special exhibitions of archaeological discoveries make the audience interested in and accept the information in designing steps of information processing, coding and distributing codes. Firstly, designers should position the target audience and study the cognitive ability and interests of the audience, that is the premise of making information communicated effectively. Secondly, in the course of information processing, disseminators should discard shortcomings of pursuing timeliness and artistry excessively and pay attention to scientific research especially the study of archaeological materials, at the same time exhibitions should avoid listing every archaeological discovery one by one ,but have a clear subject because a clear subject may help the audience concentrate themselves on collecting, arranging and remembering the information concerning the subject. Thirdly, in the course of coding, designers should populate the symbols according to experience of the audience, and make full use of the remains symbols and symbol combination on the base of original materials of archaeological discoveries. Lastly, designers should pay attention to dynamic display and atmosphere design so that exhibitions of this kind become more interesting and more appealing.Part Four discusses the exhibition of Shanxi great archaeological discoveries in Shanxi museum according to studies above. There has been no one who has looked upon exhibitions of archaeological discoveries as a category of display and had a study. This is the first thesis which makes a comprehensive and compound analysis on special exhibitions of archaeological discoveries, wish it may provide some references for this kind of exhibitions in future.
