With the development of wireless telecommunication technology, especially short range wireless communication technology, its applications such as Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity), Bluetooth and UWB (Ultra Wide Band) and so on are increasing in the environment of indoor hotspot. Those applications are based on the transmission of EM wave in free space or dielectric medium, therefore the study of transmission and reflection characteristics in indoor environment is significant. The model transmission-line (MTL) method is based on conventional transmission-line theory and Floquet theory. It is applied to analyze the transmission and reflection effectiveness of building structures. This thesis improves a previous study of MTL method and extends the method to transverse magnetic (TM) mode of obliquely incident plane wave based on a more general two dimensional building structure model. With the proposed novel building structure model, the transmission and reflection characteristics of plane wave through periodic dielectric medium including brick wall, reinforced concrete wall as well as walls structure are studied. Simulations and results in the ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) band are given to testify the transmission characteristics of these building structures. It can be drawn from the thesis that in the condition of less accuracy demand, MTL method is effective and has less computational cost. Therefore, it has great value in practical engineering guidance to some extent.
