Research On Free Indexing For The Image Ancient Literature Of Traditional Chinese Medicine

With developing of the digitalization of ancient books,the digitalization of ancient books of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) is also developing from easy image scanning to intelligent retrieval. Retrieval is aim and indexing is method.To achieve effective retrieval the further indexing study of ancient literature of TCM is required. Therefore,this paper discusses the indexing for the image ancient literature of TCM by combining free indexing of modern literature and full-text database of the image ancient literature of TCM,the aim of which is to serve the TCM researchers reliable and convenient retrieval.1 StatusNow the work of creating full-text databases of ancient literature of TCM is doing.Each of the full-text databases has its own characteristics. But there are some common issues.For example,the indexing depth is improper.The precision of retrieval is low based on full text.The recall of retrieval is low because the post-controlled retrieval is hardly applied.This paper presents the concept,application range,advantages and disadvantages and application prospect of free indexing.It shows that free indexing is better for creating full-text databases and satisfying users' retrieval demand by the compare study of free indexing and subject indexing.This paper also discusses the post-controlled vocabulary.2 Object,Content and Aim The research object of this paper is the image ancient literature of TCM. In essence it is the image database of ancient literature of TCM. There are two points about research content and aim.Firstly,apply free indexing to every kind of literature is discussed,and summarize the indexing criterion.Secondly,analyze the indexing words,and summarize the design scheme of post-controlled vocabulary and the retrieval strategy of the database to improve retrieval efficiency.3 SignificanceThe research in this paper can effectively protect and use the ancient book of TCM.It can provide the indexing criterion for indexers.It can serve the TCM researchers reliable and convenient retrieval.It can provide demonstration and reference.4 MethodThere are four methods in this paper,namely free indexing with post-controlled vocabulary,literature analysis,comparison method, statistical method.The free indexing method in this paper is called the deep processing of catalogue.The words in the catalogue must be indexed.On this basis,the words in all titles and paragraph subjects are also indexed.5 Main Work5.1 Indexing Method for Every Kind of the Image Ancient Literature of TCMThis paper adopts the literature classification of《catalogue of TCM ancient books in China》.There are twelve leis in this book.They are medical classics,basic theories,diagnoses,acupuncture,materia medica, prescription,clinic treatment,health preserving,medical case,medical history and so on.Take the herb book for example.Firstly,we must index the words which can show the book frame,such as fengmian,feiye,xu,and so on.Then the words which show herb sorts must be indexed,such as caobu,mubu,guobu, or shangpin,zhongpin,xiapin,and so on.Finally,every herb name must be indexed,such as renshen,huangqi,and so on.5.2 Design Scheme of Post-controlled VocabularyFirstly a kind of simple vocabulary frame can be used to collect the indexing words.It includes indexing word,identifier word,semantic relationship.Then analyze the indexing words by compartmentalizing distinct categories.Finally summarize a perfect post-controlled vocabulary,which includes number,indexing word,synonym,near-synonym, superordinate words,subordinate words and relative words.It can post-control the retrieval course to improve retrieval efficiency.5.3 Function Improvement of the Reading System of TCMIn 2005 the library of China Academy of Chinese medical Sciences creates the system.Free indexing is applied to this system.This paper presents the system technology,the requirement of hard ware and soft ware and the system function.Compared with other databases this system can provide more and better functions if post-controlled vocabulary can be applied to this system.It also turns out that this research is essential and valuable.6 ConclusionFirstly,this research can not only impersonally reflect the content of ancient literature of TCM,but also provide demonstration and reference for further research.Secondly,applying the free indexing and post-controlled vocabulary to the database can improve retrieval efficiency.Thirdly,consult the advantages of other databases and make use of advanced computer technology,and the function of the reading system of TCM will be better and better.
