With the rapid development of Internet, the problems of both the available IP address which will be used up, and router table which expands much rapidly appear more and more serious. IETF established and perfected next generation protocol, namely IPv6. With the advantages inherited from IPv4, IPv6 solves some problems that can't be dealed in IPv4, such as address exhausted problem, having built-in security and mobile. Perfect support and broad prosperity are provided to application and development of network of next generation by the new characteristics of IPv6.Work has been done in this paper as following1. Studied this new protocol of IPv6, analyzed and compared the similarities and differences in address distribution and DNS with IPv4. Studied the protocols emphasizing the stateless auto-configuration, DHCPv6, DNS, by analyzing the characteristics and technical specification of IPv6.2. Discussed tactics of IPv6 address management and DNS, analyzed Neighbor Discovery protocol, stateless auto-configuration, stateful auto-configuration of DHCPv6 and specific communication of DNS.3. Designed the experimental system and established accordingly. Designed, practiced, analyzed the network experiments mentioned above.
