The computer control dominates in the field of industrial process control. It has developed from centralized control, distributed control to FCS. FCS becomes hot in current development of automation technology and is honored as Local Area Network in the field of automation. It marks the start of new times in industrial control technology and plays an important part in the area. CAN (Controller Area Network) belongs to the FCS category. The data communication of CAN bus has features of high reliability, real-time and flexibility. The CAN bus is multi-host serial bus which support the distributed control and real-time control efficiently. CAN, as a new bus technology, has features of good performances and high reliability. The distributed network based on CAN can need the demand of practical engineering conveniently and low-costly.With the development of computers, Internet and communication technology, the embedded system also develops very fast at the same time. It is small in volume, low in power consumption, powerful in performances, reliable in use and widely used in the indurstries. It has been used widely in many fields, such as the military and national defense, the consumer electronics, network service, and industrial control, etc. With the advent of network times, the application of 32-bit MPU will be the mainstream in the application of high-tech embedded system. The MPU, with ARM as the core, is a widely used RISC chip.This paper firstly summarizes the industrial control automation technology and the generation, types and advantages of CAN, then analyzes CAN bus and discusses the application, structure and protocol of CAN bus. The embedded monitor system based on CAN communication protocol is the study object. On the basis of extendable CAN interface on the ARM chip, a CAN network embedded smart monitor node is built. The data communications between node and IPC is realized. As a result, the monitor system has higher reliability and real-time feature. The paper also describes the hardware and software, related CAN devices.Using LPC2290 chip of 32-bit ARM core as the MCU, the design of hardware circuit is finished. The embedded real–time operating systemμC/OS-Ⅱis introduced into the system. TheμC/OS-Ⅱ's transplant is accomplished under the ADS compiling environment. The task scheduling is finished byμC/OS-Ⅱ. The field monitor network is built by using ARM7 chip which is based on CAN controller.It sufficiently shows the advantages of 32-bit MCU. The CAN network communications based on ARM is realized. At last, the application research of industrial control field data acquisition system is accomplished.
