Visualization in scientific computing (VISC) is an important research topic of computer graphics. It can represent large scale of data or the calculation result as graphics images, and has been brought into wide use. Medical images visualization is an important application and a hot point in VISC, it can display the internal structure of human tissue directly, make up for the shortcomings of medical images equipment. The volume rendering method does shading processes to all of the volume data directly, maintains the details of the medical images, and achieves better render results. The significance of medical images volume rendering is the high quality results, so the hot point and the aim is strike the right balance of the rendering results and the rendering time.Firstly, it offers a detailed manifestation of the relevant technologies of volume rendering, including the concept, characteristic, process, optical model, and the principle of resampling. Secondly, it describes several typical algorithm of volume rendering, concludes their improvement, get the effective method of improving the efficiency of the algorithm is reducing computation cost of resampling. The Ray Casting algorithm has the higher quality rendering results because it processes all of the volume data, and the defect is the low speed. So finally, the Ray Casting algorithm is studied, and a fast technique based on abandoning the line segments that have little contribution in the sampling progress is used. During the development we used VTK class package, it simplified the process and improved the arithmetic efficiency.
