As the main means of personal communication, the wireless mobile Communication technology is developed very fast after entering the 21-century. The International Telecommunications Union(ITU)has mentioned to use the IMT-2000/FPLMTS as 3G system. In 3G system there are more and higher requirements for antenna than the old systems. This article is to design and study 3G antenna.Because microstrip antenna array is well known for its highly desirable characteristics such as high gain, small volume, light weight, and ease of linear polarization, it is one of the best choices which satisfy the needs above and the work of this article. The study emphasizes the wide bandwidth, high gain and antenna measurement. The first part of the article completed analysis the principle of microstrip antenna and microstrip antenna array, especialy analysis the rectangular microstrip patch antenna, which introduced in Chapter two. At the same time, according to pactical need, this article studies the feeding methods of simple microstrip and array. The second part of the article completes design, simulation, and experiment of 3G simple microstrip antenna and microstrip array. Then provids two projects that is double rectangular patch antenna and double layer patch with capacitor reflector antenna, and discusses all kinds of factors that affect antenna's characteristics according to the design requirements, and presents measuring result. For the double layer patch antenna element have more advantages to another, we choose this kind antenna to form eight elements array, the last part of this article introduces the principle and method of antenna measurement simply.The dimension of the presented antenna is designed and optimized with EM simulation software CST. The influence of characteristic data as primary parameters modifying is discussed particular (including resonant frequency, bandwidth, directivity diagram ,impedance chart, etc). The study proves the project is available, the characteristics satisfies the requirement of 3G communication.
