With the development of wireless network technology, wireless video transmission has become the focus in both of the wireless communication and the multimedia fields and has been widely applied to wireless Video surveillance. Its key technology--Video compression has become the most important part of television broadcasting, video surveillance and multimedia entertainment. The H.264/MPEG 14496-10 AVC (H.264) made up of ITU-T VCEG and ISO/IEC MPEG is the latest generation standard of video compression. By investigating the H.264 detailed, this thesis improve the search algorithm of fast motion estimate, which is one of the most time-consuming modules, then we present the technology of error resilience for wireless communication. Finally, we provide the experiment platform of the network video surveillance system based on H.264 standard. The major contributions of this thesis list as follow:1. Analyze particular the development of the video compression, describe the research background, the purpose and the feasibility of thesis, and the main technologies about the wireless network video surveillance system; Investigate detailed the performance of the H.264 standard and its new technologies different from the previous standard.2. By researching the fast motion estimate search algorithm, which is one of the most time-consuming modules, this thesis presents an improved fast motion estimate search algorithm. The performance of the new algorithm is proved by simulation experiments.3. Briefly analyze the causes of the network transmission error and its impact to network video transmission. Based on analyzing traditional error resilience technology, this thesis researches the new technology of the H.264 standard used in the network transmission error resilience. The performance of H.264 standard is proved by simulation experiments.4. Based on detail design to the network video surveillance software, this thesis develops a network video surveillance demonstration platform based LAN using H.264 standard and UDP protocol.
