With the diversification, complication and individuation of the requirements for products,the methods and technology for fast design of the products, aiming to reduce the product develop period, have been paid more and more attentions. With the metal structure of overhead traveling crane as an object, this paper researched the theory and methods of parameterized design. The major research content is as follows.(1) Researched the theory of the modularization and parameterization of the metal structure, and presented the tree modeling structure and the corresponding modular-driven method.(2) The reasonable module division is taken, the 3D parametric module is established and the modules and codes of the designs are coded bases on the researches of the structure and the design of the Metal Structure.(3) Studied the key technology in parameterized module drive and drawing adjustment. Solved 3D module parameter of metal structure and 2D drawing adjustment by molding board, position sketch, up-down assembly design and technology of drawing.(4) The module division is taken to parameterized program; the designer can update or maintain the metal structure's modules on time by technology of data management and driving-document, without the Software Developer.(5)Developed modularized and parameterized design system of metal structure in SolidWorks by dint of the object-oriented development tool VB6.0 and re-development technology, which apply an excellent computer aided design tool for overhead crane metal structure design.The system will improving design efficiency and precision of metal structure, bring tremendous economy benefits, reducing working intensity and lets engineers vacate more time to jump in development of new product.
