Smart Phone Platform contains smart phone operating system, service middleware, GUI, application framework and software development kit.The next generation smart phone platform must be open and support services and internet.This platform is based on Open Source Software Projects. It is totally open, and supports several network environments and multiplayer services.The mainstream smart phone platform includes Symbian, Windows Mobile, Mobile Linux (Qtopia), Palm OS and Android.Symbian, Windows Mobile and Palm OS are too closed that they can't fit user's demands. An open smart phone platform is needed by the market and manufacturers. Qtopia and Android are open platforms. But Qtopia is hard to develop, so it is not friendly for small manufacturers and end-user. The Android developer must use a non-J2ME Java. And Android needs the support of high quality hardware, which is also not suitable for small manufacturers.In this situation, it is needed by market that a totally open smart phone platform which supports several communication environment, several multimedia type, Location Based Service, and internet application, also easy to develop, and can use several languages to develop.This article designs and implements such a smart phone platform based on Linux and other open source software accord to the above demands.This article researches the features, components and trends of smart phone platform, analysis and compares the mainstream smart phone platform nowadays. Then this article designs and implements a totally open smart phone platform which supports several communication environment, several multimedia type, Location Based Service, and internet application, also easy to develop, and can use several languages to develop. After that the development method is described and a demo is shown. At last, GSM modules include GSM daemon, GSM library and GSM demo application is developed based on this new platform.This article has finished the work below:Researches the features and components of next generation smart phone platform, analysis and compares the mainstream smart phone platforms;Designs the platform architecture of a new smart phone platform based on Linux and other open source software;Implements this new smart phone platform, builds host machine development environment, makes bootloader image, kernel image and rootfs image, sets basic configures of smart phone.Designs the basic architecture of applications which need install and which don't need install;Develops GSM modules, include GSM daemon, GSM library and GSM demo application based on this platform.
