Integrated Access Media Gateway is a Key Equipment for the transition or evolution of the PSTN to the next generation networks (NGN). It is of great significance for the protection the users'investments and for the realization of the network and service fusions between the PSTN and the NGN. It is responsible for the connection between the PSTN/ISDN and the IP network and can be used to realize the conversion of code between the circuit switching network and the packet switching network, and realized the connecting of PSTN/ISDN and IP network. The PSTN and its general complementary services, the VOIP and ADSL services are realized by means of some functional cards in the integrated access media gateway AG(Access Gateway) designed in this thesis. By connecting the narrow band subscribers to the NGN through our system, the wider band services can be realized in a"One-stop"manner.This theses firstly proposed a scheme for the configuration of the network of AG in combination with the evolution status of the PSTN to the NGN, described the overall framework of AG and the modules realizing some services, and also some functions provided by this system, and discussed the performances of this system with respect to the software and hardware.Secondly, a detailed description of the design of the VOIP card was presented in this thesis. After an introduction of the concept of the VOIP technology, several access scheme of VOIP were analyzed in combination with the development status of this technology. Then the design process of the functions of the Asynchronous Communication Interface Adapter (ACIA) (one of the VOIP service card) was discussed .Finally, several examples of the AG. systems were introduced. By using the network construction mode and the system configurations, the performances of the proposed AG system are tested including the fundamental functions of the wide band, the multicast and the ability of providing multi-service, the access ability of the AG system and the inter-connection with the soft switch, the maintenance and the management as well as the support ability of the AG system. Both the test environment and the test steps were described for the aforementioned tests. The test results along with some analysis and comments were also presented in this thesis. Testing results show that our system developed in this thesis has a superior performance and can match well the market requirements.
