Surface Mount Technology (SMT) prevails in the today's electronic manufacturing industry. Among the equipments that constitute a SMT assembly line, placement machine is the most important one. The software system of placement machine directly affects the stability and maneuverability of the whole system, and becomes an important factor which decides whether placement machine could complete the work with high speed and accuracy. It is also an important topic which needs to be solved in the domestic electronic manufacturing industry.The motion control system of placement machine is researched in this paper based on the Quad Systems Corporation's Quad QSP-2 placement machine, mainly finishing building the motion control system and designing the control software. Firstly, analyse the primary equipments of the Quad QSP-2 placement machine, do selection of hardware and experiments, complete the wiring of the system, and build a new motion control system of placement machine in the end.Secondly, on the base of the new motion control system, achieve all the basic motion functions, and design the control software of motion control system of placement machine based on VC++6.0, realizing the positive integrity of parameter setting, placement motion, track display and so on.Finally, apply the PID algorithm in the motion control system of placement machine, introduce several methods of PID parameter regulation, and finish regulating PID parameter with one method, which is proved to be excellent through the response curve of the system position in Matlab and the actual running of the system.
