With the development of material science, polymer blends are used wider and wider in people's manufacturing activity. There is a direct relation in the composition, structure and performance of material. So, it is of significance to analyze its performance that measuring and studying the characteristic parameters of the dispersed phrase of polymer blends. For a long time, the characteristic parameters of the dispersed phrase of polymer blends are measured by manual work. In this research, measuring its characteristic parameters by programming in MATLAB and studying its microstructure shape and size distribution rule are based on different microstructure images of the dispersed phrase of polymer blends.1. Discuss the methods, characters of the technology of digital image processing, analyze the total requirement of image processing of the dispersed phrase of polymer blends.2. By utilizing the technology of digital image processing, involving smoothing, sharpening, convolving, edge finding, image segmentation and morphology in combination with image processing toolbox in MATLAB, program for analysis on the TEM microstructure grayscale images of polypropylene/montmorillonite, polyamide6/carbon black and polycarbonate/carbon, get the desired binary images.3. Design the methods of numbers, perimeter, area, and Feret diameter of montmorillonite particles based on the binary microstructure images of montmorillonite layers in polypropylene/montmorillonite. Program for getting the parameters above, learn that montmorillonite particles in polypropylene exhibited ellipsoidal shapes and a normal size distribution.4. Design the methods of area-equivalent diameter ,mean size, weight mean size of carbon black aggregates, average particle size of carbon black particles based on the binary microstructure images of carbon black aggregates in polyamide6/carbon black and polycarbonate/carbon black. Program for getting the characteristic parameters, learn that carbon black aggregates exhibited ellipsoidal shapes in both polyamide6/carbon black and polycarbonate/carbon black, but a bimodal and normal size distribution respectively.5. Develop a getting system and users'interface which is applied to measure the characteristic parameters of the dispersed phrase of different polymer blends automatically based on MATLAB.By measuring and studying the characteristic parameters of the dispersed phrase, it is possible to find out the microstructure shapes and size distribution rule of the dispersed phrase, estimate and intervene the performance of the material on line.
