The rapid development of technology such as Wireless Sensor Network, MEMS, Integrated Circuit and wireless communication with less power consumption makes it possible for large-scale application of Wireless Sensor Network. Deployment, coverage, nodes localization and network communication protocol are several basic questions of research on Wireless Sensor Network. Among these questions, nodes localization is the forehead and the hotspot of WSN.Deep research on localization technology of WSN is done. Limited by volume, cost, power and hard to get close to the work place, the basic localization way is: to deploy a few anchors, other sensors compute their own coordination by estimating distance, angel, location relation and network connectivity.In DV-Hop localization algorithm, information of anchor nodes is spread among the network, the distance between unknown nodes and anchor nodes is presented by the average distance of each hop multiple with the least hops between them, and then use Trilateral to get the location information. Research on localization technology of WSN based on coal mine environment is done, several main algorithms are analyzed and compared. DV-Hop localization algorithm is improved to be applied in coal mine. Simulation shows about 10 percent location accuracy improvement. Research on localization coverage is done, Node Self-scheduling coverage algorithm and Reveal Cross coverage are analyzed and compared. A power saving algorithm based on Node Self-Scheduling is suggested to apply in coal mine environment. Simulation shows that the network applied the power saving algorithm is obviously better that Greedy in network life time. The power saving algorithm is sensitive to nodes number of the network, it shows much more obvious advantage under network with large number of nodes. Network applied with the power saving algorithm suggested in this paper has longer life time, the power saving algorithm is fit for WSN based on coal mine monitoring system.
