Spectrometer is mainly used to quickly detect ferrous metal and nonferrous metal, so different metal brands can be classified and specified. The detection is mostly done by eyes in metallurgy and manufacturing at present. Such method depends so much on operators'skill, so it is frequently misjudged and the job is complicated with extremely low efficiency. Aiming at the situation above, the computerized spectral pattern recognition system is developed. It puts forward a new way which collect and analyze spectrum with digital technique and pattern identification. Analyses the component of metal by rule and line and fleetly.First, explain the principle of spectrum in brief. And image collection system is designed. High resolving power CCD is used to accomplish this function and the coupling mechanism which bonds CCD and spectrometer together is also designed to lay image on CCD sensitive surface.Second, obtained images are processed and pretreatment arithmetic is fixed. Slick filtering is chosen to wipe off impulse and random yawp. Sobel operator modifies the edge thinner. Boost up the lightness and contrast to make it more distinct between the bright-line and dark-line. Image is changed from gray-scale to two-valued according to the threshold which is automatic selected. Two-valued image is fitted to linear array basing on Hough transform. After that, arithmetic for spectral pattern is designed based on the character of picture. Here, bring forward an idea of Character Group. And search the fitted linear array by Character Group. Position and lightness information of every line in the array is noted by order. All the standard spectrum-line established by Character Group together constitutes the spectrum-line warehouse of system. We use such a warehouse to distinguish the element in the metal. This is the most important part of this paper.At last, application software and single unit system are accomplished. Including programming, work flow and interface designing. Measuring console is designed to assemble every part to a whole body. It is proved that the system can heighten efficiency, improve veracity and reduce load of workers.
