Research And Implementation Of Container Codes Recognition Technology

The container codes recognition system plays a very important role in the fields ofcontainer management system and the container transportation industry. The system whichis based on digital image processing technology locates, extracts the container codes fromthe image that is caught by the device and then recognizes characters. According to thevalidation rules of the container codes, people can amend the codes by checking the imageafter the failure of recognition, and that makes the technique reliable. Since there’s noneed to install any other device on the containers, The technique attracts more and moreattentions.This paper did a research on the container codes recognition system that is based onimage processing, and introduced the brief principle of the system. After analyzing thefeature of container codes, this paper elaborated the process of the system, includes fourproblems: image preprocessing, how to locate container codes, how to separate characters,how to recognize characters.In the module of the image preprocessing, after lots of experiments on imageintensity, the system used spatial filter to eliminate image noise. This paper proposed aalgorithm of locating container codes which is based on image segment technique, andused projection technique and the boundary following results to implement characterssegmentation. In the module of characters recognition, the system used template matchingand feature matching to achieve a better performance. Through the experiments, theaccuracy of the container codes recognition system can meet the requirements.
