As the characteristics of multiple breeds, small batches and order form of special-shaped stones producing as well as the trends of higher and higher quality requirement, machining equipments are called for the ability of one-equipment with multi-function and responding to the market demand quickly, on the basis of processing with high efficiency and quality. On this background, equipment development for machining special-shaped stones, which is guided by the modular design methodology, is put forward. According to the existing problems of modular design implementation, construction of modular design platform, which will carry out the modular design of equipment for machining special-shaped stones, is introduced. The aim is to realize the computerized modular design. It is guided by the modular design theory, with the configuration design and innovative design as its center, with database management technology and collaborative design technology as its basic supports, and is developed by the ideology of software engineering.Do further research on the key supportive technologies—modular design of the platform. Research on the basic theories and key technologies of modular design. According to the characteristics of equipment for machining special-shaped stones, analyze the fundamentals, build the developing mode and process model of modular design. Divide modules according to the correlation between the functional modules. Put forward an innovative method of the module design based on collaborative design methodology, and the encoding system faced to the design platform.Do further research on the key technologies—requirement and analysis modeling of the modular design platform development. Complete the overall layout and design of the platform on the ground of software engineering. Build the functional model, database model in series of IDEF principles. The models builded by these methods facilitate the communication between the developers and users, and guide the platform development efficiently.On the basis of requirement and analysis models, complete the data design and architectural design. Put forward to build the database model of platform in the 0-0 method. Realize the physical storage of the function-structure mapping knowledge database through the tree structure. And set an example of database dictionary design. Select the multi-tier distributed structure, separate the data processing and storage. Divide the platform into many program modules, and point out the logical relation between them. Finally show the structure, function, and character of the platform by running example.The development of equipment for machining special-shaped stones is guided by the modular design concept. As a result, the repetition of design is reduced, the utilization ratio of design resource is enhanced. And it will promote the rapid development of the manufacturing industry of stone equipment. The modular design platform, which is characterised by automated, integrated and networked, will greatly promote the speed and quality of modular design, realize sharing of design information and quick design, and promote informationization of the stone equipment manufacturing industry.
