Chinese advanced audio video coding standard (AVS) with independent intellectualproperty signs pivotal progress in audio video compression technology.The maintechnique of AVS video compression standard is similar to H.264,but morestraightforward with approximate efficiency.The AVS system standard extend theMPEG-2 system so that it is compatible with the existing MPEG-2 transportsystem.The AVS video compression standard is established to apply to thecompression of huge size and high quality moving picture in digital TVbroadcasting,digital storage media,internet streaming media, multimediacommunication.The TMS320DM642 Digital Media Processor (DM642) is a high performancefixed-point DSP from Texas Instruments. The DSP core processor has 64 generalpurpose 32-bit registers and eight highly independent functional units - twomultipliers and six arithmetic logic units (ALUs) with VelociTI.2 extensions. TheVelociTI.2 extensions in the eight functional units include new instructions toaccelerate the performance in video and imaging applications and extend theparallelism of the VelociTI architecture. The DM642 uses a two-level cache-basedarchitecture and has a powerful and diverse set of peripherals.The main task of this thesis is to implement AVS video DECODE software on theTexas Instruments'TMS320DM642 Digital Media Processor. With its 600Mhzprocessing power in production today and an aggressive process technology roadmapfor continued higher clock rates, this DSP is most suited to overcome the complexityand computational requirements.Our AVS decoder can provide 6-10 fps decoding performance for CIF resolutionvideo.
