In petrochemical industry, thickness testing instrument for protection coatings of transmission pipes is a great topic about anti-corrosive effect and economic profit. Depending on advantages of precision measurement of non-magnetic coating on the surface of ferromagnetic substrate, Electromagnetic NDT has a bright future in the thickness measurement of oil pipes antiseptic layer. And electromagnetic nondestructive testing instruments are drived to intelligent instruments, following with leap development of artificial intelligence. Therefore this subject develops the development of magnetic coating pachometer based on embedded system, which raises the testing speed using the superiority of embedded system. This pachometer has bigger storage capacity and higher measuring precision. The paper describes the measure principle and software and hardware design of magnetic coating pachometer based on embedded system. Through choosing the components reasonally, the instrument solutes various disturbances between signals, improves system stability and eliminates nonlinear error of inductive sensor. To enhance memory capacity and instrument performance, the pachometer selects high performance MCU MSP430F149 as control core, which meets design demands of high rate and low-power consumption. Meanwhile, it transplants embedded real-time operating systemμC/OS-Ⅱin MSP430F149 as its software development platform, which realizes modularization design in software development and reduces development cycle. Moreover, the application ofμC/OS-Ⅱmakes coating pachometer receive better real-time performance and provides more convenience for system extension and system upgrade. The pachometer also suuports Chinese display making output more user-friendly. And it expands USB interface with chip CH375 so that data can be transferred to host computer and processed conviently. In the end, experimental results are given after some tests and accuracy & error analyses are done based on results.
