With the widespread popularity of the mobile phone,the short message service (SMS)has rapid expanding and became the new medium for transmitting information. It was subjected to the extensive concern of the whole society.Originally,the SMS was designed to meet the needs of the interpersonal relationships and to achieve the exchange of communication between people,but the last,it gradually becomes one of the kind of important means that people obtain an information and becomes a kind of dissemination medium.It is not only created a magical "thumb economy",but also create a people's social life and a new mode of interaction.The emergence of the mobile phone is beyond the traditional and single personal Communication model,it also brings about very great changes of the people's life and the traditional media.As a kind of new emerging communication phenomenon,it brings the new opportunity to communication.Understand the media role of the SMS, its media value of objective appraisal in terms of communication today,the SMS is unusually in vogue undoubtedly have important realistic meanings.This paper takes the SMS as a research object and refers to his predecessors on the basis of research results.Under the view of communication,this paper analyses the SMS which is the kind of dissemination medium.This paper consists of four chapters:The first chapter,relate the concept of the SMS and the basic types of the SMS to give a whole understanding.The second chapter,it analyses state of development at present that the SMS depends on.And from the social basis,the Confucian culture and the technological progress etc.to explain the reasons for the prosperous of the SMS.The third chapter,research on the SMS under the View of Communication with the personal communication and mass media integration,deficiency of the "gatekeeper",the strengthening of "opinion leaders",the silent world at one's sweet wills,the cultural space of happiness and freedom etc.Five aspects,elaborated the negative influence of the SMS from the spread of rumors,batch quantity wish messages and the rampant waste etc.to analyze and put forward some measures to solve the problem,for example,make laws,moral criterion and the development of "Red Duanzi".In the very final chapter,the author illustrates outlooks of the SMS communication cause.
