Spatial econometrics is one embranchment of econometrics, which is researched through the spatial effects of the cross-sectional data and panel data including spatial dependence and spatial heterogeneity. There have been a lot of applications integrated spatial factors in traditional econometrics, regional science, city and realty econometrics science, econometrics geography, geographical information science and etc. This thesis studies development of the spatial econometrics software by integrating GIS and spatial econometric functions using the plug-in technique. The thesis begins with a discussion of related theories and approaches that support plug-in techniques, and ends with applications of coded spatial econometric functions in a GIS environment. The thesis is made of five chapters, as below. The thesis begins with "Introduction." In introduction, recent advances in spatial economics are reviewed, the urgent need of introducing them into GIS is discussed, and different perspectives on integrating spatial economics and GIS functions are assessed. Then, the main goal and contents of the research are stated, and organization of the thesis is described. In Chapter 2, the techniques issues of spatial economic models are deducted. This includes classical linear regression model (CLRM) and estimator (OLS), heterogeneity error model, spatial lag model, and spatial error model. All of the specification, estimation and validation techniques are included.Chapter 3 is for design of the proposed spatial economic software, it focuses on the ways as how to facilitate and realize the plug-in and the dynamic linking technologies.Chapter 4 is for testing the power of the new software by applying the Anselin's famous Columbus crime data. It tests in step by step beginning with the data importation of different formats, through weights creation, ESDA and CSDA, and ending at the spatial dependence diagnostics. The thesis closes with a conclusion chapter, in which the main research results are summarized and future research directions are anticipated.
