With the rapid development of the visualization theory and computer graphics, the 3D geological modeling and visualization have become hot points. The Geological visualization technology not only provides new ways for geological workers to observe geological spatial distribution and analyses geological phenomenon in three-dimensional space, but also makes more scientific decision-making for geologists. The relevant algorithms and technology of geological 3D modeling, visualization which base on the geological survey data object are deeply studied in thesis. At first, the 3D geological visualization theory and basic technology of visualization are discussed. The basic geologic features and requirements of geologic modeling, the processes of 3D geologic modeling and the principles of choice data structure are analyzed. A new 3D geologic modeling method based on DEM (Digital Elevation Model) is proposed. The spatial interpolation and surface approximation are used to get geological tendency planes, format the geometric model, and various visualization technology such as hidden surface removal, lighting, rendering are used to display the model. Then the technology of geological visualization is deeply studied. The algorithm for 3D intersection, method of cutting geological model , excavation analysis and earthwork computing, the methods for simulating tunnel and pipeline are designed. The above algorithms have been implemented in VC++ and OpenGL programming environment. In order to illuminate the effectiveness of these algorithms, some geological survey data are used to establish its geological models and visualization analysis of the models is made, the results of which are quite good.
