As Global Positioning System is developing faster and maturing recently, this GPS technique is now being applied to more areas .Besides, Equipments of GPS are becoming smaller, even chips, and 3G mobile network will be applied to China Mobile Industry, so there are now varieties of embedded electronic equipments, and they are now having a quite close relationship with people's everyday life, Therefore, More and more cell phone manufactories are now releasing their smart phones with GPS module.In this paper, a 3G smart phone with Linux-java platform of Motorola is token for example. Firstly, basic technology, basic terminology and working process of GPS is introduced, both advantages and disadvantages of GPS is represented. And then AGPS(Assisted Global Positioning System) with shorter positioning time and higher positioning accuracy is introduced.A new Assisted Global Positioning System Optimization architecture for smart phone is designed and realized in order to improve cell phone's whole system performance, combined with characteristics of smart phone itself: lower CPU hardware, higher stable of running time and lower power consumptions. So series of optimizing functions for each module are implemented in this paper, Solutions can improve cell phone's performance as we expect.
