An Economic Analysis Of Metropolis Newspaper Under The Oligopoly Market Structure

The development of market economy, the raise of the level of urbanization, and the increasing number of educated urban residents, caused the fast development of metropolis newspapers in Chinese large cities. Now, metropolis newspaper is one of the main ways to citizens to get information, and it becomes more and more important in people's daily life. But after ten years high-speed development, there are many problems of metropolis newspaper, such as the homogenization competition, the asymmetrical quantity issued, the price cartel and so on, make these newspapers encountering the inflection point of development.This paper studies metropolis newspaper's development in Wuhan mainly using the market structure theory in industrial economics. In foreword,I analysisd the characteristis of metropolis newspaper's oligopolistic market structure in Wuhan. In the First Chapter, I introduced the superiority of the development of metropolis newspapers in Wuhan, and analysisd the market structure before and after the establish of "Changjiang daily".Then in the last three chapters,I pointed out the mistakes and maked suggestions of solution measure to the development of metropolis newspapers in oligopolistic market structure. In Chapter Two,I analysisd the anxious homogenization of competition characteristis of metropolis newspapers,it will cause the newspapers' competition to a dead end, and the solution measure is making their core- competitiveness. In Chapter There,the price war isn't the right measure of competion, there will be no winners in the price war, and the press "cartel" against the interests of the vast number of consumers ,isn't conducive to the free competition in market economy,. In Last Chapter, the asymmetry of market information is one of the largest obstacles to the development of metropolis newspapers, only to establish a scientific newspaper circulation mechanism can defend the benefit of the readers and advertisers, the credibility of the newspaper can be reconstructed. only to establish a unified, open, competitive and orderly market system in the media, China's metropolis-newspaper market can develop in a healthy way.
