With the improvement of people's living standard and the increasing of security requirements in our living and working circumstance, the video monitoring system is developed rapidly in recent years. In the past years most of monitoring systems were based on analog technology, until the end of 90's had the video monitoring been entered from analog age to digital age, which named digital video monitoring system. Now most of digital video monitoring systems on the market work by an image capturing card in PCI socket, On the other hand, many powerful embedded processors, Especially DSP chip include abundance of peripheral interface and has very high programmed ability, which make the hardware and software of video monitoring system be implemented easily. But also, this embedded system conquer many deficiencies of the system based on PC. As a result of the increasing performance-price-ratio, adding in small area, low lost and power consumption, the proportion of embedded chips in video monitoring field become much higher. The TMS320DM642 Digital Media Processor is considered to work well for people who use DSP at present, which is a 32-bit fixed-point DSP that is developed for multimedia applications by TI. It has become one of the perfect platforms for the video processing system currently.In video moving objects analysis process, moving objects tracking is based on moving detection. The primary purpose of video objects tracking is to achieve motion feature moving objects, including motion track and instantaneous motion parameters and so on.As major video take semantic contents by way of motion information, anglicizing and capturing meaningful dynamic information become more and more important part of multimedia information processing technology, so as to highly interests on the research have been focused on.This paper mainly research and design a universal embedded video monitoring system. The central processor is TI's dedicated processor TMS320DM642. The kernel structure and peripheral equipment of TMS320DM642 was discussed. On the foundation of research and taking into account the design requirement of this system, the implementation method in which the main design of video system based onTMS320DM642 is discussed, and the detail design is given.After the study of the hardware and software for the system, this thesis does deeply research in the digital image segmentation algorithms based on DSP embedded system and the author puts forward a new algorithm based on 4-adjacent Connection that can fit the real-time demand of DSP system very well and real-time tracking of the movement of objects In addition, the thesis does a research on several optimization ways of DSP programming and memory optimization technology.
