The traditional food safety control system isbeing challenged and the new corresponding mechanism, that is "from farm totable "system, is impelling each country to establish an effective animal and animalproduct traceability system, so as to manage and monitor the whole processes of animal feeding, transportation, slaughter and animal product processing and selling.There are many advantages of Radio Frequency Identification technology, such as: contactless operation, large storage capacity, rapid recognition and multi targets recognitions, and just because of these features, research on animals information identifying and tracking system based on active RFID is expatiated in this paper, to give effective technology support to the safety of foodstuff. The main reseach contents with results are as follow:(1)The structure, characteristic, application field and working principle of RFID are presented, and the pivotal technologies of active RFID are discussed, such as stability, power cost and read-write distance of system. According to the feature and practical application of the task, the whole RFID system truss is designed from electronic flag to WRer, then all modules are subdivided and both radio and the key technology is analysed during the period of design.(2)The design of Tag is particular, including the design of RF, control and power circuit, then the idea of software design is put forward, and the interface funcitons are made acordingly. The idea of designing active tag is adopted for telecommunication. To reduce power cost, the ultra low power radio frequency chip and micro process unit are selected, then the system hardware platform is constituted.(3)The design to hardware and software of portable read-writer is accomplished from researching the technology of RFID. The WRer is miniaturized and more movable to the farming managing occasion on which moving frequently. To communicate with background management system, the serial circuit is introduced. The ultral power cost RF chip and MCU is adopted, and the power consumption is reduced efficiently. (4)On the aspect of software development, the substrate driver is programed which use the method of modularization with the nested form of C and compile language. At the same time, all kinds of low cost modes of MSP430 MCU are mainly researched, then the sleep mechanism is introduced, to enhance the efficiency of energy using and depess the power cost.(5)From the experiment's condition and methods,these parameters are tested: Read and write distance, veracity, reliability and power consume. The results of experiment indicate: Read and write distance can be 100m. The veracity of read-wite is above 99%. Flag's continuous uninterrupted work time is more than 7 days, and the RWer is above 3 days. The standby time of flag is more than 30 days, and the average standby time of RWer is about 8 days, which is satisfied the actual needs.
