Partition-based distributed model is a distributed system model which leverages data locality to improve the performance. The real application developed by employ this model appears to have advantages over the general distributed system models. This master thesis provides a retrospect on the background of the emergence of this model, i. e. the evolvement of the system architecture, parallel database and the load balancing technique, and then describes the model in detail. Because there are some common problems encountered in the phase of designing an application using this model, this paper concludes these problems into design patterns. Finally, a dynamic partitioning method aiming at improving the performance is proposed to solve the non-automatic problems in the design patterns.
