Western Resistance And Producing Of Cultural Politics

This thesis takes the events like the western resistance of the Olympic Games as a point of departure to analyze how the western media take advantage of the political symbols covered by culture to affect the ideology and the political opinions of the public. Based on this analysis, the opinion that cultural politics is the source of modern western crises is expounded, and the role that western media play in cultural politics is expatiated. In addition, the crisis of legitimacy which leads to the emergence of western totalitarian trend is revealed. This thesis attempts to analyze the political significance of this new phenomenon and its influence on media from the philosophical perspective. The specific contents will be stated as follows.Part I The Dominative Political Strategies of Western MediaWhen consumption has replaced plans and become the optimal solution to economic crisis, the dominative political strategies in the west undergo changes. First of all, the western media constrains the independence of public politics. The public political independence is removed by media propaganda. Consequently, the public depends wholly on the media for political judgment. Some inspirations to this point can be obtained from the resistance to Beijing Olympic Games which is caused by the public concern about Darfur problems. The shift from Darfur problems to Beijing Olympic Games is due to the western media's manipulation of agenda set. Secondly, the western media manufactures bias. The political bias indoctrination by the western media's use of scenes leads to public's making mistakes in political judgment. When the public is moved or irritated by the scenes provided by the media, their value judgment system will be biased, which results in the opposition of the two worlds together with public biases in ideology. As a matter of fact, since the Iraq War, the western public is consistent with its government concerning political opinion on many international issues. This kind of consistency even has replaced the traditional political interference. The emergence of this phenomenon has everything to do with the political indoctrination of the western media which likes evaluating the world on the basis of its own values at the cost of inauthenticity. It is the lack of independent thinking and the investigative spirit of western public that makes the western media proxy of politics. This kind of society without doubt and resistance is by no means reasonable. On the contrary, the public in this kind of social system falls into the hidden ideological compulsion.Part Two Cultural politics is the root of social crisis in modern western worldCultural politics is derived from the change of western political ruling strategies, for western ruling form is transformed from pure political rule into cultural one. But the media makes use of"cultural industry"to destroy any differences of external forms that exist in the public. Meanwhile, the media also uses"consumer society"to make itself the sole source of producing differences in western society. In the premise of fictitious needs and demands, the public must depend on the media to realize the temporary difference among individuals, but when such a difference is removed by the media in the name of industrial duplication, it is the beginning of next temporary difference. Under such circumstances of industrialization, dependence will be a kind of necessity for the public when the creative and removing speed surpasses public self-creative speed. The consequence of the phenomenon is that the public will completely depend on the aesthetic conception provided by the media, and the dependence means there is no need for the public to think over the essence of the business. However, the media makes use of the sign with the political meanings to influence the public, so as to enforce them to fulfill western political task involved guidance.Part Three Western Media's Non-rationalCrisisThe role of media played in cultural politics makes it clear that western media is no longer a representative organization that stands by the public. On the contrary, western media has become a special political organ, so the Non-rational will be an existing premise for the media. Through the definition toward the law and rule of journalism right, we find that journalism right is not very clear. Inferring from the law,"legal person"shouldn't be the main body who can exercise the journalism right, which actually denies the media's legitimacy in news reporting activity. Well then, in order to continue the existing fact, the illegal western media group, on one hand, suppresses the news forms that may threaten its ruling position; on the other hand, through making hatred and misunderstanding between the nation and the peoples, hold together the important role of media group in the news dissemination system. The evil consequence is to make western society slip into totalitarianism, and make appear the phenomenon that the old system suppresses the new one under the situation of totalitarianism. Therefore, many human tragedies are produced, and one of the tragedies has appeared in Iraq. If the ruling of western media group toward the public is not stopped, the public would be ended in enslaved fate.Through opening out the variance of western media in the social system and the fact that western media makes use of cultural politics to control the public in the political field, the author provides necessary exhortations to the social system that was controlled by western media, and hopes that they can avoid totalitarianism. As for Chinese media, a developing one, finding out effective tactics quickly is the key for China to obtain the initiative in international communication.
