The application of fiber optical cables in electric power systemtelecommunication network is getting more and more popularized in recentyears. The telecommunications, automation, and maintenance of powersystems rely increasingly on reliable and high performance optical fibertransmission. At present, daqing oilfield electric power telecommunicationnetwork has constructed optical telecommunication network. However, inpractice fiber optical cables are susceptible to damage owing to the factorssuch as external force and cable quality itself, so as to degrade thetransmission quality of the cable. In the past, the transmission equipments willgive an BER alarm when cable going wrong in using, and firstly operator willjudge the reason of the alarm; and then inform of the line maintenance andrepair department and related administration department, then the linemaintenance and repair department will check and repair the faulty lines; it isnot only need complex treatment process but also need the long time. So it isnecessary to construct a real-time automatic monitoring system for fiber opticcable line.In this article we introduced a automatic online monitoring and detectingsystem of fiber cable developed by us basis on the characteristic of daqingoilfield electric power telecommunication network, which give a advancedmaintained method and which can detect the malfunction spot of fiber cablequickly and precisely and save time for repair of fiber cable troubles. Therepair department will have the information initiatives and provide a reliablesafeguard for the high quality,high efficiency,secure and stable transmission about optical cables.This paper outlines the structure of fiber optical cables on-linemonitoring system from 4 ways ,including the component of system,thestructure of data resources,network architecture and software architecture.And how to configure and manage the monitoring system are explained indetail. At the same time, in order to insure the normal operation of the fiberoptical cables on-line monitoring system ,we claim the maintenance workersin the way of working environment,routine maintenance and etc. Themaintenance workers can quickly mastering the using method of themonitoring system through practical application and to exert fullythe powerfulfunction of it.
