The technology of infrared imaging belongs to the technology of passive detection, which is applied widely to military and civil affairs. The quality of infrared images directly influences the widely application of the infrared images, because of some disadvantages, such as, the low cntrast, blurred edge, much noise and complicated element. Since the quality of infrared images mostly depends on the advancement of the infrared image processing technology and it's proper use a great lot of manpowers and resources are invested in the technology of infrared image processing since 1980. Though, many new theories and algorithms came into being, they still can't have a good satisfication as for the advanced weapons used in the various changeful tactics and entironment. So, the study on the echnology of infrared image processing and the produce of the more new and more efficient algorithms become very important.At present, the method of image process mostly focus on space region or frequency region. Considering the special features of the wavelet transform, for example, it's use in the space region and frequency region and it's ability of decompose the planar signals to different scales, it becomes very proper to image analysis. The study shows that the technology of the wavelet transform used in the image process can improve the image quality efficiency and obtain the information we are needed.A systematic and deep research is conducted in two aspects based on wavelet transform. In Partâ… , a transverse comparision of the techniques of the infrared image processing is made. In Partâ…¡, a lengthways study on the detection of infrared small targets is done. By analyzing the algorithm of detection of infrared small targets, a new method is proposed, which uses a new threshold calculation, a more effective threshold function and a combined decision manner to get an improvement in the effect and speed of the detection of infrared small target.
