Today, information security has become an important problem that affects nationalsafety and social stability. Cryptographic technology, as a key means to ensure it, hasopened from the military and diplomatic fields to the public use.Currently, in the national cryptographic engineering research, researchers only canresearch and analyze each reported cryptographic algorithm by their experiences andtheories in a very low efficiency. In order to improve the developing level and speed ofcryptographic algorithm, this paper presents a practical research platform. MicrosoftVisual C++ 6.0 is used as a software development platform for the overall systemdesign. Through operating the control and designing the interface friendly,cryptographic algorithm can be ran on the hardware system, with the scheduling andcontrol on serial interface for the hardware system, and test the data of cryptographicalgorithm on the PC. The research platform of cryptographic algorithm has thefollowing features:Firstly, it is able to operate any cryptographic algorithm factually, thereby testingthe resources occupied by cryptographic algorithm.Secondly, it can research and analyse the strength of cryptographic algorithmefficiently.Thirdly, it can reproduce the correctness of cryptographic algorithm.This paper also proposes an improved program to SMS4 algorithm which is thefirst commercial algorithm published by the government. On the research platform ofcryptographic algorithm, the correctness of encryption and decryption of improvedalgorithm are validated, the diffusibility and the occupancy of resources of SMS4algorithm and improved algorithm are also tested and compared on this platform.
