Presently, the industry and enterprise are confronted with the new challenge of global market, international manufacture and varieties of requirements. The competition among enterprises in time, quality and cost is more and more scorching. In the product development, the exchange model information plays a crucial role, and it directly related to the conversion of information in the product development team. CAD model exchange technology based on feature is an important theoretical significance and worthiness, which achieves a conversion accuracy of the information model so that the exchange of information is more efficient.Firstly, some CAD model exchange methods are introduced, and thier shortcomings are analyzed. Secondly, a new method based on feature to exchange CAD model is put forward in this paper, and the meta-language of feature operation (MLFO) is established as the criterion of CAD model exchange, and format of the feature description file (FDF) is also bring forward. Thirdly, the system design principles, ideas and work processes are studyed under the principle of feature. Lastly, a system for exchangeing UG and PRO/E model by reading and writing its feature information is developed. The model exchange between UG and PRO/E software can be implemented stably and safely by this system.
