Spread Spectrum Communication is a significant technology in modern communication field. It is widely applied because of the advantages such as its good performance on anti-jamming, anti-multi-path, high usage of spectrum, multiple access communication etc. In this paper, author describes a design of an actual system which uses direct sequence spread spectrum technology for wireless communication and implementation on the Software Radio hardware platform based on programmable logic device, such as DSP and FPGA. The function of the Spread Spectrum Communication system designed and implemented includes enframe/deframe of baseband and data processing, such as adding CRC, convolve coding, interweave and their inverse processing. It also includes function of DS/despreading, shaping filtering, modulation/demodulation and UDC/DDC. Specifically, information framing and coding are implemented in the DSP(C6000 chips of TI), written in C language. DS/Despreading, Modulation/Demodulation and other modules are implemented in the FPGA (Virtex-4 chips of Xilinx), written in VHDL and Verilog language. Finally, related simulation and hardware testing results of the designed SSCS demonstrate the feasibility of the project.
