With the development and popularization of computer technology, network technology and virtual reality technology, DVE(Distributed Virtual Environment) system had great progress both in theoretical research and particular application. DVE can be regard as a network-based virtual environment with distribute-computing property. In a DVE system, clients locating at different places can explore a virtual world and interact with each other simultaneously.On the basis of introducing the use of distributed virtual environment technology and the researches situation at home and aboard, the distributed virtual assembly environment architecture and its characteristics are analyzed detailed. The computational resource management and parallel rendering based on cluster computational resource are also researched deeply. And the virtual environment supporting multi-user collaborative virtual assembly for complex product is established eventually.After analyzing the features of computational resource management system in DVE in-depth, management of distributed virtual assembly environment computational resource and its application are researched. A computational resource management algorithm model based on agent, which provides effective and credible visit on the dynamic resource information, is presented.This paper is also closely related with parallel rendering, including the general characteristics of parallel rendering based on PC cluster computational resource, parallelism of rendering pipeline, etc. In the case of sort-first architecture, a time-feedback load balance algorithm based on grid is proposed, and geometric primitives belong determining and pretreatment of model are investigated. A regional image synthesis based on model classification is proposed on sort-last architecture, which goes a long way towards solving the problem of data transmission. Experiment is conducted to aid for the analysis, and efficiency of algorithm is verified.The corresponding software modules are developed by applying the computational resource management and parallel rendering based on PC cluster technologies in the distributed collaborative virtual assembly environment. Validity of these modules can be proved by collaborative assembly of an automobile chassis.After a summary of the work, the directions of further study on distributed collaborative virtual assembly environment are proposed.
